Hand-drawn MTG card

I was bored.

So I did what any normal human being would do.

Hand-draw a custom MTG card to be given as a surprise when I hand over cards owed.

3D Magic The Gathering Cards

I finally sorted out my cards and I realized I had a lot of excess of some cards. So what do I do with them?

Cut them up, of course. Well, for art!

Basically you have one card for each layer you'd want in the final output, and cut them up accordingly. I used 4 Felhide Minotaur cards for this. The top most layer would only have cuts in the illustration window and the text box window. I then used a black marker to ink the sides of the cards so that the whites does not show.

It's kinda fun, so I might do this for some other cards. But I think I'll stick to simple shapes, unless I have a better blade and a smaller pair of scissors.

I also made another one with Disciple of Phenax and Agent of Horizons.

M15 Pre-release

I am back after a long hiatus! Was busy playing Legend of the Five Rings, and the fact that Journey to the Nyx wasn't that interesting enough for me.

Yesterday (Sunday) I attended the pre-release for M15 at Comics Corner Damansara Jaya. I was quite nervous due to the fact that it was a draft tournament (I hate drafts. I am terrible at it!) but decided to give it a go anyway. This was probably my second official draft ever.

It didn't help that I had no idea what cards were there in M15, as this IS a pre-release after all. Sure, they already released "spoilers" of all the cards (this means they released images of all the cards online) but I couldn't really digest them as well and I didn't really have the time. So I was basically flying blind. "This will be fun." I thought.

The entry fee is RM65. You need a DCI number to participate if you don't have one already. But it's free, so you should sign up for one if you think of entering any tournaments. It tracks your participation in official events and get points to exchange for perks. I think. I obviously haven't racked up enough points to know. Haha!

The M15 pre-release packs is available in the 5 colours of Magic - White, blue, black, red and green. Each box has 5 M15 booster packs, 1 pack of cards that has extra cards of your chosen colour, and 1 tasty foil promo card of your chosen colour.

Promo card for red pre-release pack. *spits fire*
I chose the red pack because I am most familiar with red. (maybe I should start branching out to other colours...)

This being my first pre-release event, I really didn't know what to expect. But all the guys were excited with the "mini-game" that came in the box this time.

It was a blown-up version of a Garruk card (have you seen his M15 card? So OP!!!! I will immediately concede if my opponent comes up with that card...) and it came with a guide to the mini game and 3 wolf tokens.

Basically, one person plays as Garruk, and the other uses his/her deck to fight against him. Quite a good idea to pass the time in between matches, especially when some people take forever to finish off the game -.-

Red M15 20-sided dice. Purrrrdy!
I (sloppily) built my deck in about 10 minutes. I first sorted the cards by colour, and then I sorted my red pile by mana cost. ...but didn't matter anyway coz I ended up taking most of the red cards. I then had to choose a second colour coz I didn't have enough to build a 40-card deck.

I chose blue as my second colour because all the annoying instants and sorcery cards were tasty. (and I am somewhat greedy) And because I knew I was going to fail miserably, I might as well annoy the heck out of my opponents and have my own fun with them. (this was something I regret though, and looking back at my other cards, should have gone for red white deck instead. Aih...)

After about 20 minutes, we got ready and I met my first opponent. Due to being too nervous, I accidentally forgot to pick my first card at the start of the turn -.- baguslah.

I was still sleepy and groggy at the time (woke up early due to some other thing I had going on in the morning) so I really couldn't remember what cards he was playing. Or what colour, for matter. *headdesk* Doesn't help that all the cards were new to me, and with a new keyword that was introduced in M15 which is "Convoke".

Anyway, needless to say, I lost. 2-0. The format was best out of 3. So I lost the first 2 games :(

I lost the same way to my second opponent. He had rats!!! I hate rats!!! 1/1 and Deathtouch T.T Well, I tried to annoy him with a lot of Lightning Strike (I managed to pull both of the only 2 Lightning Strikes in my deck o.o) but I guess he was too good.

I had a lot of fun with my 3rd opponent though. I lost the first turn, but I actually won at the second turn. HUH?! How was this possible?! I guess it was a stroke of luck, because all the nice cards came out at the right time. My 3rd round was terrible though coz I had land flood. I didn't even manage to get anything onto the board. So in the end, I lost at 2-1.

But all in all, it was a nice experience. I felt a bit shy entering also because I knew I was going to be the only girl there, but they were all very nice to me. I also had to be thick-skinned coz I knew I was going to lose anyway.

But I still walked away with one booster pack for all my troubles! \o/

While playing in the tournament, some cards have became a favourite of mine. Now I might want to try to find a way to incorporate some of them into my current decks. Or build a new deck. Maybe. We'll see.

Turn to Frog has a special place in my heart. It helped me take down a green 5/5 creature as he was attempting to block one of my attacking creatures. Gua! Gua! Gua! (frog chanting sound)

But my MVP card is............

I realize that the community doesn't play walls at all. Because it's annoying. And I play annoyingly.
The best part about this card is, this wall has a +1/+0?!?!?! Where have you been all my life?!?

And because I know a lot of people don't play walls...

This card has been a life-saver a few times. I equipped it to my Borderland Marauder that deals 3/2 when attacking and I was swinging like nobody's business.

And now, picture time! All my cards from the pack. And yes, I got 2 MYTHICS! MUAHAHA!:

Not in photo because I gave this away to my friend earlier, since he plays Slivers:

My mythics and rares.

Aaaaand a foil I pulled from one of the booster packs!

My thoughts for the M15 pre-release?

I thought it was a great experience. I think I will feel less scared to join in any tournaments later on. Even though I still can't play very well, everyone is pretty nice and supportive. Also, M15 has a lot of tasty cards. And the black and white graphics for M15 is soooooo pretty!!

All-in-all, I enjoyed myself. So I am looking forward to tournaments in the future \o/

Till next time!

P.S: I wish there will be more Frog cards in the future. I want to build a Frog deck.

Born of the Gods Fatpack

Hello! So today I received my Born of the Gods Fatpack. Bought it from Spartan Games Arena in Wangsa Maju, because my friend was going to buy anyway so I got him to help buy for me (Yes, I'm a lazy girl)

Was praying really hard, but didn't get my Mogis. Instead, I got some nice cards in return, which I think I can sell/trade for Mogises \o/ So I am going to do just that!

So if you're interested, for a list of cards I am selling/trading/want to buy/want to trade, please click here! And thank you!

My experience at Magic: The Gathering Kuala Lumpur Grand Prix

I attended the Grand Prix last Sunday. It was held at Sunway Pyramid Convention Center.

And guess what, it was my very first tournament! Yes! I have never joined any Magic events like WNM or FNMs. Am I crazy, or what? XD

I only attended for a side event though, which was the Standard Pauper (commons only). It had 4 Swiss rounds, and winners were determined by the accumulated number of points. It was held at 4pm but I was there at around 1.30.

There was quite a lot of people there. Although I can imagine this must have been much less than the 1st day (I heard there was 1000 people! Wow!). I can see some people already playing sealed decks.

Registration for side events starting at 4pm opened at 3pm. So at 3pm, we went to write down our name and Planeswalker ID. If you didn't have one, they can still register for us. Which is useful for new Planeswalkers who hadn't registered yet :)

While waiting for 4pm, me and my friend were doing last-minute tests with our decks.

At around 4pm, they announced which table the Pauper side event was gonna be. So we made our way to the table. Pairs and seating arrangements were pre-determined by a judge, who had a printout of all our names. Our judge was a Vietnamese guy who was very nice :D

Right off the bat, even before we began, we already knew that this was going to be a very casual game. Even the judge didn't seem too strict. And there was only 8 of us who registered for the event! Haha! We are the top 8!

My deck

I ended up using a fast (but not fast enough IMO) red aggro deck that focuses a lot on fire power (shocks, lightning strikes etc) and 1/1 red soldier tokens. Here's my decklist!

My side decks were simply put together. Some faster spells and a few spells to target land/artifact, heavier creatures in case my own creatures were too small to kill my opponent, but that's it.

Round 1

My opponent was a regular from Classroom Cafe. He was an easy going guy and both of us were struggling from time to time during the match. I even remembered him playfully asking help from the judge coz he land screw! And the exasperated expression when he thought he couldn't do anything... Haha! I couldn't stop laughing!

I lost the first round, won the second round, and then lost again. That last round was really close though! He was down to 5 and I was down to 6. He ngam ngam (just barely) had enough power to kill me off. If not, then I would have killed him in the next round XD So in the end I lost by 1-2 T.T

But it was a very enjoyable game. I had lots of fun and he was a great opponent!

Round 2

I got a bye, because there was a new player, so we ended up with 9 players. I think it meant I got an automatic win. So I ended up playing with someone else just to pass the time XD

He was nice to me and taught me a few tactics. And his sleeves were really nice! (Even though it was his friend's) He even jokingly offered me to use the deck in the tournament lol!

Round 3

A regular from The Tavern, Kota Damansara. I actually won against him 2-1 O.O! Actually his deck was quite weak against mine. It wasn't a matter of skill. Coz when he was playing another deck with me for fun, he got me down to 12 and I didn't even put a scratch on him OMG. Didn't help that my key card didn't come out and he kept putting 1 and 3 cards into my graveyard so many times T.T

The funny part I remember from this round was when I wanted to put down Deathbellow Raider, and he actually called it out before I put it down O.O He actually can tell by how many mana I tapped? So scary XD I even looked behind me playfully and asked that there was nobody behind me, right? Lol XD

Round 4
My opponent was a guy from Penang. He sat down unrolled his Chandra playmat. The moment I saw the playmat and black sleeves (idk why, it made him seem very yeng) I was thinking, I am soooo gonna lose. I keep getting this hou yeng aura from him haha! But he was a very nice guy =D

And true enough, I think it was sap sap sui for him coz I lost 0-3 OTL although I did make it hard for him to win, still, I lost all 3 rounds! T.T Oh well, he memang is a competitive player (he said he placed top 27 or something? O.O)

Total points

Round 1: 1-2
Round 2: Bye
Round 3: 2-1 (i think?)
Round 4: 0-3 omg
Total points: 6

6 points meant that I received 2 Theros booster packs as a prize. Yay!

Aftermath

After the event, we still hung around for a while while some other players were winding down. I remember some of the guys were laughing at my deckbox XD one even asked to take a pic and put it on FB/instagram. Haha! I feel flattered, thank you!

Back of my deckbox

Front of my deckbox

I cracked my pack that I won from the Pauper game. Nothing much, as usual. I have really bad luck when it comes to cracking boosters. I had one foil which was a Dragon Mantle, but gave it away to my first opponent coz he collected foils and I didn't have any use for it ^^;

Then after that we left. But went back because we forgot to check out Classroom's booth which sold nice leather deckboxes by OLD GAME STORE. I gave in and bought one for RM35, and it came with free 50ps clear glossy plastic sleeves. Sweet!

All in all, it was a very fun experience. I really enjoyed my first real tournament, and everyone was very friendly and cool.

Unfortunately next year's GP will be held in Taiwan T.T I will have to wait for 2 more years to go for the next KLGP. But I shall wait patiently, and become a better Planeswalker until then \o/

Thank you everyone for the awesome experience!

Introduction

Hello! I am a novice Planeswalker. At the time of this post, I am 2 months new.

I currently play mono blue -and- a Minotaur red black deck. I play almost exclusively Theros, with a few M14 cards here and there. Also looking forward for Born of the Gods next month!

This journal is to keep track of what I've learned about the world of Magic: The Gathering, or simply just to take notes about anything and everything.

Onwards!
